February finds #23
Ahh February a month for lovers and, it would seem, a month for dog-lovers.
Read on to discover our top picks this month for the canine-inclined.
Paris: Amour Chien
Launched in the city of love last week, French illustrator Thibaut Gleize's "Amour Chien" or "Tough Love" - a series of humorous limited prints of dogs and humans. They may not make you swoon but are guaranteed to give you a giggle. Visit the show until 18 February at Sergeant Paper or fetch one from afar right here.
An extensive retrospective of the work of British artist and committed daxie-lover David Hockney opens at Tate Britain on Thursday. A must-see for every art hound.
The show, which spans six decades of Hockney’s prolific work, runs in London until 29 May before travelling to the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the MET, New York.
As the fastest selling exhibition in the Tate's history, you'd be barking to miss it. In fact what an excuse to trip to all three fab cities!
Canberra: The Popular Pet Show
And for those residing DownUnder a little reminder...there are only a few weeks left to visit The Popular Pet Show.
This fur-free show includes portraits of famous and obscure Australians and their pets by contemporary artists such as Nicholas Harding, Lucy Culliton, Darren McDonald, Anna Culliton, Fiona McMonagle, Ken Done, Noel McKenna, Graeme Drendel, Robyn Sweaney, Kristin Headlam, Shen Jiawei, Jude Rae, William Robinson, Janet Dawson and Davida Allen. Many works have been created especially for the exhibition.
See it now at Australia's National Portrait Gallery. Can't make the show? The catalogue itself is a dream. Get your paws on a copy here!
February finds for frugal fashion hounds
You may think we have a penchant for pricey (we do), but that doesn't mean we don't love a bargain. Fashion hounds, check out our fabulous February finds. They won't break the bank (nor our start-up budget) and will send you park-bound with a spring in your step. Starting with...
1. The "Follow Me" T (pictured above) by hip Hungarian fashion house Nanushka (we adore their jumpsuits). There are a few styles to choose from and best of all these puppies are now on sale!
2. Steam Punk shades by Trade Goods. Available in black or gold and an absolute steal (well compared to Celine or Loewe!) at the sale price of only £48.
3. Campus 80s by Adidas Originals x Colette x Undefeated. At 130€ "NOT CHEAP!", you may say, but cost-per-wear we bet you'll get your money's worth. Change your mind? You can probably re-sell them and recoup your dosh! Walkie happiness.
And now back to something we can actually afford. Agapornis Magazine is a new(ish) - now on its 5th issue - magazine for animal and design lovers hailing from Spain. This stylish tome explores the bond between people and animals, and how this is captured in Art, Design, Photography and Fashion.
Great piccies, cute furries and best of all the team behind the mag has a passion for organisations that promote animal welfare. Each issue features a different welfare group with readers given the opportunity to make a 3E donation towards its operations. It'd be rude not to buy it.
Luis Venegas, the genius behind Growlmama-faves the Printed Dog and J.W Anderson's recent campaign has snuck his fabulous Frenchie Perri into Spanish fashion house Loewe's limited edition book: Loewe, Past, Present and Future. Fair cop when you are responsible for editorial and creative direction. Loewe + Dog, what more could you wish for? Thank you Luis.
Take a (puppy) lovers stroll for All Dogs Matter
So what's on for puppers this dog-loving month?
For starters, Frida and I are getting our schizzle on and heading this weekend to Hampstead Heath. Leaving the confines of East London we'll be spreading some love and helping to raise some dinero for the pups of All Dogs Matter.
There'll be prizes in store (including a few Growlees) and a tonne of beautiful puppers to cuddle. Who knows one of them may just be the love of your life.
See us at the Garden Gate at 11am, 12 February 2014. For more info, visit All Dogs Matter.
Let your pup snooze in style
Does a walk sound too much in this inclement weather? No problem. February brings also something for snoozers. Hello Pets have again excelled with their luxe Legowisko loft bed. Simple and stylish and super comfy, it will be sure to appeal to your resident design hound (and also their mutt!).
Don your pet's pjs for a city escape!
No matter how stylish your gaff or comfy your bed, sometimes one gets sick of napping at home. Why not treat your best friend to a dog-friendly getaway? We remind you again it's the big month of love.
Pet's Pyjamas can point you to a plethora of dog-friendly places. Take for example the Ace Hotel, Shoreditch.
Great sheets, great vibes and just up the road (for us). For London doggies and city-lovers forget passports and Customs and check yourself in somewhere fun and super dog-friendly: bowls and beds are provided and doggies welcome in their Bulldog Edition cafe and the Lobby Bar. A perfect escape for you and your number one love. Book now!
TV for dogs? I canine believe it!
And last but not least, in this edition of Growlmama Loves we bring you DOGTV - a US TV show with programmes created especially for canines. While you may quip, "We'd rather spend time out-of-doors with our canine companion", we're pleased to report that programmes are designed (in partnership with the Humane Society) to help alleviate stress and anxiety in dogs left alone. Not happening at our house until this Growlmama gets cable.
